Mrs. Yovana Bustamante Testifies at Philadelphia City Council for Autism Acceptance Month

Today, April 3, 2025, our founder and Executive Director Yovana Bustamante stood before the Philadelphia City Council, proudly supporting Resolution #250313 introduced by Councilmember Kendra Brooks, which officially recognizes April as Autism Acceptance Month in the city.

This resolution not only honors April but also recognizes the work of advocates who are autistic themselves, breaking down barriers and pushing for a truly inclusive society.

Yovana spoke not only as the leader of an organization, but as the proud mother of three amazing autistic children. Her speech moved everyone present and earned her applause. Here is her full message:

"Good morning. My name is Yovana Bustamante, and I am the founder and executive director of Posibilidades Infinitas, a nonprofit organization that uplifts Spanish-speaking Latino families, ensuring their voices are heard and respected. But more importantly, I stand before you as the proud mother of three incredible individuals—two young adults and one almost-teenager—all on the Autism Spectrum. I am here in full support of Councilmember Brooks’ privileged resolution recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month.

Because we don’t just need awareness—we need true acceptance, inclusion, and equity. Autism acceptance means policies that protect, uplift, and include—not just during April, but every single day. It means creating spaces where autistic individuals and their families are not just welcome, but centered.

Some may say they ‘Accept’ Autism, but how genuine is that acceptance when, every day, our rights are challenged—even by the very systems meant to protect us? My children—and every autistic person in Philadelphia—deserve better.

They deserve to live in a city where Neurodiversity is celebrated, where access is guaranteed, and where their voices matter. Let this resolution be more than symbolic. Let it be a step toward a future built on dignity, respect, and belonging for all.
